Discover the transformative power of traditional Ashtanga Yoga.
Join us for a fun, welcoming, and inclusive introduction to the foundations of Ashtanga Yoga. Over four weeks, we’ll explore the key elements of this dynamic and traditional yoga practice in a supportive environment. Ideal for beginners or those wanting to make the move into our regular Flow or Ashtanga yoga classes on the schedule.
Together, we’ll move through the core postures of the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series, with opportunities to explore more challenging poses where appropriate. Along the way, you’ll learn the essential principles of breath (ujjayi pranayama), bandhas (internal energy locks), Drishti (focused gaze), and vinyasa (the linking of breath and movement), before settling into a well-earned, deeply nourishing savasana at the end of each session.
Perfect for beginners, curious newcomers, and anyone looking to establish a consistent yoga practice, this course offers a strong foundation in one of yoga’s most respected and transformative traditions.
What is Ashtanga Yoga?
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a traditional yoga system that integrates breath and movement to create a flowing, meditative practice. Often considered the original “flow” yoga, it follows a structured sequence of postures designed to build strength, flexibility, stamina, focus, and body awareness.
Traditionally taught in a Mysore-style setting, students learn a fixed sequence of postures and gradually develop an independent practice, moving at their own pace with individual guidance from the teacher. This approach allows the practice to evolve naturally with each student’s unique needs, abilities, and experience.
